How to Read the NIFTY 50 Heatmap

A NIFTY 50 heatmap turns index movement into a visual map. Each tile represents a stock. Green usually means the stock is up, red means it is down, and stronger colors show larger moves.

Start With Tile Size

Large tiles matter because index-heavy stocks can move NIFTY more than smaller constituents. If Reliance, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Infosys, or TCS moves sharply, the index can react even if many smaller stocks are flat.

Then Check Sector Clusters

If most bank tiles are green, banking is leading. If IT tiles are red while FMCG is green, traders may be rotating from growth-sensitive names into defensives. Sector clustering is often more useful than one isolated stock move.

Green Broadly

Most sectors are participating. This is usually stronger than a one-stock rally.

Mixed Colors

The market is selective. Look for sector leadership before acting.

Heavyweight Drag

A few large red tiles can pull NIFTY lower even if many stocks are stable.
